Posting (August 29, 2018) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, University of Wyoming Student Health Service

Essential Duties: 

-Provide comprehensive psychiatric and mental health services to students.  This includes obtaining a complete history, diagnosing disorders, prescribing psychotropic and other medications to treat symptoms of psychiatric disorders and improve functional health status.

-Coordinate referrals and ongoing access to primary and other health care services.

-Provide consultation to and seek consultation from other health care clinicians.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters or DNP degree from a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program in an accredited graduate nursing school

State of Wyoming Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license (or eligible)

DEA Registration (or eligible)

State of Wyoming Controlled Substance Registration (or eligible)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent listening skills

Experience with electronic medical records

Ability to contribute to multidisciplinary team efforts

Desired Qualifications:

5 years working as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient setting

Posting (July 20, 2018) Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes independent practitioner status with prescriptive authority to assess and administer treatment for psychiatric illness. Initiating, prescribing, renewing, refilling, monitoring, and managing the care of patients on psychotropic medications.
  • Performs comprehensive psychiatric evaluations including detailed history of mental status evaluations on assigned patients. Evaluates available data and orders appropriate laboratory tests.
  • Prescribes appropriate therapies and follow-up as indicated.
  • Maintains accurate, thorough records via dictation of evaluations/ note or written evaluation/progress notes. Refers medical problems to the appropriate medical staff as indicated.
  • Works as in integral part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Is available for suicide assessment and crisis intervention.
  • May be involved in carrying a patient panel, providing same-day access support, and working in Primary Care-Mental Health Integration.
  • Provide education, therapy, and counseling of patients and families in psychiatric conditions, addiction issues, and medical conditions related to psychotropic medication use.
