2011 WCAPN Scholarship Award Winner

Rebecca White is this year's WCAPN Scholarship awardee.  Congratulations, Rebecca!

Rebecca's Bio

I have been an RN since 1976.  I enjoyed working in emergency medicine and spent 7 years working as a nurse paramedic.  I became a Nurse Practitioner in 2003.

Since graduation I have worked in pediatrics.  I have been the sole provider in the most rural clinic in the continental US in Big Piney, Wyoming.  Most recently I worked in the Rock Springs, Wyoming emergency department as a Nurse Practitioner.

After graduation, I was hired by Vanderbilt University to be part of a team that travelled to Botswana, Africa.  There I worked with nurses and doctors to open a $100 million hospital in Gaborone, Botswana.

My first group of students was comprised of 32 nurses.  It was an honor to work with the experienced nurses there and to assist them in expanding their knowledge to a level consistent with nurses in the U.S.  During my second visit we trained 114 nurses.  The trainings were carried out wth the help of another RN educator from Wyoming.  We used a rented hall to conduct 3 days of inservices for the entire group, followed by 2 weeks of skills stations in the hospital.  It was the trip of a lifetime for me.

I am currently working to complete my Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree and am hoping to graduate in May of 2012.  I appreciate the financial support given me by WCAPN in the form of this scholarship.  It has allowed me to work part time as I complete my clinicals.

I live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and love to ride my horses, ski and fly fish. My winter jobs will be at the Teton Village Clinic at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and with an OB/GYN office doing family care and pediatrics.
